Why We Do What We Do

“…all that we have accomplished You have done for us.” (Isaiah 26:12)

Why do you do what you do? How do you decide what to do?

Here at Men of Valor International, we just celebrated our 20th anniversary! During our 2025 Vision Dinner in April, I spoke on why we do what we do:

  • To preach the gospel. Our conferences bring together church leaders and seekers alike. Every gathering proclaims the gospel, but the true impact unfolds in discipleship groups that originate at the conference and continue on. Just this morning, I received the news that 541 men came to Christ last year through these groups in Chitipa, Malawi. When men experience the strength of godly brotherhood, they invite others—spreading Christ’s message through transformed lives.
  • To bring light to a dark world. Men of Valor ignites hope and a vision for a stronger future. As saved men of God, they are called and equipped to lead—with strength, holiness, humility, and prayer. Their transformation becomes a beacon, illuminating their families and communities. Timothy in Liberia told us:

“God said to me that I should not support ungodly things and that my priority is to live by God’s Word. I learned I should seek God’s business in my daily life and take full responsibility for my obligations. I must serve as protector spiritually and physically for my household.”

  • To serve. When we reach men, we serve communities because they are transformed. Marriages strengthen, children grow up with fathers, and prisons hold fewer men. The need for crisis intervention fades as men embrace godly leadership. Churches see men pursuing righteousness—and the world changes for the better.
  • To bring joy. Men leave our conferences transformed. They testify that joy fills their lives, marriages, families, and churches as they put their learning into action. Knowing their purpose, they embrace their roles, set new goals, and commit to building a lasting godly legacy. Steve in Malawi told us:

“These lessons have helped my family to be transformed spiritually up to the point that now we do love each other, and my wife and I go to church together. I used to hit my wife, but after I heard the truth that a husband of valor must protect his wife, I was challenged, and now my family is so happy.”

Like Christ, we are committed to fulfilling the will of the Father. We do it by reaching men.

You’ve heard us say it time and again because we’ve seen it proven over and over: when you reach men for Christ and equip them to live godly lives, you transform their families, churches, and communities. Scripture confirms this truth—just look at Cornelius (Acts 10), the Philippian jailer (Acts 16), and many others.

During our Vision Dinner, we had many great video testimonies from around the world about Men of Valor’s impact on men’s lives and their families.

Greg Knight from West Virginia spoke of the impact that MOV teachings continue to have in his area. They’ve given out over 100 Living as a Man of Valor books, and the discipleship groups that started at the MOV Summit last fall have grown and multiplied!

These accounts are important and exciting. But we’re not done!

Would you join us to do what we do?

2025 has already been full of international travel. In January, we led an MOV Summit in Europe, and met with pastors, missionaries, and seminary and Bible school students in the Netherlands, Montenegro, Moldova, and Slovakia.

What greater impact awaits, God willing, in 2025 and beyond?

  1. Strategic Global Expansion: Establishing new in-country teams in Benin, Guinea, and Zambia while advancing efforts in Europe, and Central and South America through partnerships with mission organizations and churches.
  2. Men’s Ministry Jumpstart Workshops: Empowering Western churches to launch and revitalize men’s ministries with focused, high-impact training.
  3. International Discipleship Resources: Translating Living as a Man of Valor into Spanish and  Swahili, while developing streamlined audio and print versions for broader accessibility.
  4. Digital Ministry Growth: Establishing a YouTube-based podcast to provide ongoing discipleship, encouragement, and global engagement.
  5. Conduct More Train-the-Trainer Conferences: Launching widespread men’s discipleship in Kenya this summer and in and around Liberia, Tanzania, Malawi, and Peru through 2025.

We conducted four conferences in India in the Spring. Altogether, over 420 pastors and church leaders attended – some from 350 miles away. One-third committed to launch men’s discipleship groups. We repeatedly heard “we’ve never had training exclusively for discipling men.” The men left encouraged in the face of persecution and with tools and lesson guides to reach and disciple men in their church and communities.

In July, I am going to Kenya to lead three MOV conferences.  Brian Moser from Virginia and Tim Rooney from South Carolina will teach with me alongside longtime MOV friends and advisors Pastors Stephen Njenga and Leonard Wampua.  We start with young men in the Camp Brethren High School in Eburru, followed by a conference of some 100 pastors and church leaders. From there, we head to Umojo (Nairobi) to train pastors, Bible school students, and laymen.

Will you stand with us? Will you help transform men, families, and communities?

We’ve set out to raise $174,000 to advance this mission, and by God’s grace, $117,000 has already been pledged or received. That leaves $57,000 to go! Will you prayerfully consider a generous gift this month—or a pledge of monthly support—to help reach the full amount?

To meet this need, gifts of $150, $600, $1,500, and $2,400 are essential. We also need contributions of $5,000, $10,000, $20,000, or more for those called to give sacrificially.

This is your chance to be a key partner in this movement. Pray for us. Share Men of Valor with your friends and church leaders. And, if you’re able, would you consider a gift of $1,500 toward these projects?

For Him and His men,

Brad Smith, Founder & President
Men of Valor International

P.S. To cultivate lasting transformation in families and communities, engaging men is indispensable. Will you help us do what we do? Please send your generous gift today.
